Altachem chosen for European robotics initiative

We’re delighted to share the news that Altachem, a wholly owned subsidiary of the LINDAL Group, has been selected for an EU funded programme to improve ‘agile production’ through advanced robotics systems in internal process logistics.

Following open calls from the Trinity Digital Innovation Hubs programme, our team at Altachem successfully applied to be part of the European initiative and will now begin a year-long project alongside non-profit technology firm, Sirris and manufacturing IT specialists, Flagstone, to form a consortium. This consortium will share their knowledge to build a live platform optimising internal logistics.

Harnessing robotics

The project will address the challenges associated with the use of mobile robots in the production of customized products. Mainly, it will establish the technological and economic feasibility of implementing Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Automatic Guided Vehicles (AVGs) on SME shop floors for the internal and flexible, small-scale movement of materials. Software tools and automation add-ons by Flagstone and Sirris, respectively, will be implemented and tested via the platform.

This project is just one element of our ongoing group operations strategy, that is pursuing the use of automation and robotics to improve our operational efficiency.”

Trinity’s initiative, which contributes funding towards the project, will culminate in an event showcasing the platform, and is currently scheduled for July 2021 at our Altachem plant in Belgium.
